The Friends of Music is dedicated to the study, performance, and appreciation of music in the Lehigh Valley community, particularly for young people. To further this purpose it engages in the following activities, thanks to the generous gifts from our contributors.
-
Holds annual competitions for individual young musicians and small instrumental ensembles.
The winner of the individual competition, named Outstanding Young Artist, and the winner of the Ensemble competition are given a public recital and a monetary award.
-
Supports an annual Gifts to Schools program and other area programs that provide opportunities to enhance music education for children. The Gifts to Schools program is competitive and provides funds for projects (activities or purchases of materials) that further music education in private, public, and charter schools, grades K–12, in the Lehigh Valley region.
-
Makes annual donations to The Bethlehem Area Public Library and other area public libraries to support classical music collections of books, scores, recordings, and video and DVD programs.
